SpaceX's 28th cargo resupply mission to the International Space Station is now scheduled to lift off at 11:47 a.m. EDT on Monday, June 5 (1547 UTC), from Launch Complex 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

This uncrewed launch of SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft will carry a new set of roll-out solar panels to boost the station's power capacity, along with medical research, student-developed technology demonstrations, and essential supplies for our astronauts living and working aboard the orbiting laboratory.

The music aims to turn invisible data into musical notes that can be heard rather than seen.

Each layer of sound represents different wavelengths of light picked up by NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory, James Webb Space Telescope, Hubble Space Telescope, and Spitzer Space Telescope.

NASA was stunned when the New Horizons Spacecraft returned its first close-up images of Pluto. Previously thought to be a simple icy rock, Pluto turned out to be a surprisingly complex and active world. The spacecraft captured images of vast plains of nitrogen ice, towering mountains of water-ice, and a sky tinged blue by tholin particles in its thin atmosphere. However, the biggest surprise was the heart-shaped feature, later named Tombaugh Regio, which showed signs of geologically recent activity, defying expectations for such a small, cold world so far from the Sun. New Horizons also spotted evidence of possible dune fields, suggesting the existence of weather, winds, and signs of an underground ocean of liquid water. The mission fundamentally reshaped our understanding of Pluto and other Kuiper Belt Objects, proving that even the most remote corners of our system hold surprising complexity.

As per the reports, there are chances of G1 class geomagnetic storm hitting the Earth on July 13. It will be a result of a close encounter with a passing coronal mass ejection. A G1 class geomagnetic storm is defined as a minor storm that can spark auroras in higher latitudes.

Space shuttle Atlantis and its six-member crew began an 11-day delivery flight to the International Space Station on Monday with a 2:28 p.m. EST launch from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The shuttle will transport spare hardware to the outpost and return a station crew member who spent more than two months in space.

Atlantis is carrying about 30,000 pounds of replacement parts for systems that provide power to the station, keep it from overheating, and maintain a proper orientation in space. The large equipment can best be transported using the shuttle's unique capabilities.

We commissioned a study team to examine from a scientific perspective unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs) – that is, observations of events in the sky that cannot be identified as aircraft or known natural phenomena.

The focus of this public meeting is to hold final deliberations before the independent study team publishes a report in summer 2023. The report will inform us on what possible data could be collected in the future to shed light on the nature and origin of UAP.

The UAP independent study team is a counsel of 16 community experts across diverse areas on matters relevant to potential methods of study for UAP. We commissioned the nine-month study to examine UAP from a scientific perspective and create a roadmap for how to use data and the tools of science to move our understanding of UAP forward. Right now, the limited high-quality observations of UAP make it impossible to draw scientific conclusions from the data about the nature of such events.

This new NASA animation highlights the “super” in supermassive black holes. These monsters lurk in the centers of most big galaxies, including our own Milky Way, and contain between 100,000 and tens of billions of times more mass than our Sun.

Any light crossing the event horizon – the black hole’s point of no return – becomes trapped forever, and any light passing close to it is redirected by the black hole’s intense gravity. Together, these effects produce a “shadow” about twice the size of the black hole’s actual event horizon.

The animation shows 10 supersized black holes that occupy center stage in their host galaxies, including the Milky Way and M87, scaled by the sizes of their shadows. Starting near the Sun, the camera steadily pulls back to compare ever-larger black holes to different structures in our solar system.

First up is 1601+3113, a dwarf galaxy hosting a black hole packed with the mass of 100,000 Suns. The matter is so compressed that even the black hole’s shadow is smaller than our Sun.

The black hole at the heart of our own galaxy, called Sagittarius A* (pronounced ay-star), boasts the weight of 4.3 million Suns based on long-term tracking of stars in orbit around it. It’s shadow diameter spans about half that of Mercury’s orbit in our solar system.

The animation shows two monster black holes in the galaxy known as NGC 7727. Located about 1,600 light-years apart, one weighs 6 million solar masses and the other more than 150 million Suns. Astronomers say the pair will merge within the next 250 million years.

At the animation’s larger scale lies M87’s black hole, now with a updated mass of 5.4 billion Suns. Its shadow is so big that even a beam of light – traveling at 670 million mph (1 billion kph) – would take about two and a half days to cross it.

The movie ends with TON 618, one of a handful of extremely distant and massive black holes for which astronomers have direct measurements. This behemoth contains more than 60 billion solar masses, and it boasts a shadow so large that a beam of light would take weeks to traverse it.

Live views from the International Space Station (ISS) are streaming from an external camera mounted on the ISS module called Node 2. Node 2 is located on the forward part of the ISS.

The camera is looking forward at an angle so that the International Docking Adapter 2, or IDA2, is visible. If the Node 2 camera is not available due to operational considerations for a longer period of time, a continuous loop of recorded HD Earth Views imagery will be displayed. The loop will have “Previously Recorded” on the image to distinguish it from the livestream from the Node 2 camera.

The space station orbits Earth about 250 miles (425 kilometers) above the surface. An international partnership of five space agencies from 15 countries operates the station, and it has been continuously occupied since November 2000.
